Lent is a powerful season in our liturgical year.  This season is basically a 40-day long retreat that the entire church experiences together.  It is a time of more intense prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Through the graces we receive as Christians we should be performing these good works all year round, but in Lent we step it up.  By withholding even legitimate goods and disciplining our passions even a little bit, we allow more room for God to enter in and help us grow in His grace.  Lent is not running a track race where as fast as one might run, they still end up where they started.  Lent is more like the doctor check-up to see where things stand with diet and exercise habits, and develop new strategies to improve our on-going health.  Lent does this for the soul.

Regarding Liturgical services for Ash Wednesday, we will have a distribution of ashes service (no Mass) at 7am. There will be Mass with distribution of ashes at 8:30am. Then at 6pm will be a “Traditional format” (meaning more Latin and Gregorian chant) Mass with the distribution of ashes.
