Lent is a powerful season in our liturgical year.  This season is basically a 40-day long retreat that the entire church experiences together.  It is a time of more intense prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Through the graces we receive as Christians we should be performing these good works all year round, but in Lent we step it up.  By withholding even legitimate goods and disciplining our passions even a little bit, we allow more room for God to enter in and help us grow in His grace.  Lent is not running a track race where as fast as one might run, they still end up where they started.  Lent is more like the doctor check-up to see where things stand with diet and exercise habits, and develop new strategies to improve our on-going health.  Lent does this for the soul.  

• Palm Sunday: weekend times are the same, but at the 10:30

Mass we will have the full palm procession, thus everyone

at the 10:30 Mass is invited to begin in the PAC. The other

Masses will have palms, but not the full procession.

• “Spy” Wednesday: Tenebrae Service at 7pm sung by the

Chesterton Academy Choir

• Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7pm

after Mass Blessed Sacrament will

be exposed until 11pm

• Good Friday: Good Friday Service (w/ distribution

of Holy Communion) at 3pm

• Holy Saturday: Blessing of Easter Foods at 1pm

• Easter Vigil: Easter Vigil at 9pm

• Easter Sunday: Regular Sunday schedule at 8 and

10:30am

This wonderful spiritual rhythm helps us grow with God’s grace to new heights and greater charity. But we must use the time well. Start thinking and praying now to discern your Lenten discipline. Perhaps the charity appeal or our parish needs can be a part upcoming almsgiving. Also, there will be more times for confession every week of Lent. In addition to our regular parish times on Friday and Saturday there will be:

Tuesday April 8 @ 5-6 @ St. Francis de Sales (Cluster Confession Night)

“Last chance” Confessions: To help those procrastinators

(like me), I will offer some final times on April 14,

Monday of Holy Week at 7-8am, noon-1pm, and 5:30-

7pm.

He who sings prays twice....Join the choir for Holy Week. Rehearsals will likely be either on Thursday evenings 1-2 weeks before Holy Week or Saturday afternoons.

Please prayerfully consider this short-term commitment.

• April 13th @10:30 Latin Ordinary Form. 

• Holy Thursday, April 17th @ 7:00 p.m., 

• April 19th Easter Vigil @ approx.8:00/8:30 p.m. 

• Easter Sunday @10:30 a.m.-Latin Ordinary Form
