True education is a good unto itself. Through education, we come to learn the True, the Good, and the Beautiful Who is God Himself. The Catholic Church has a long history of seeking and appreciating knowledge in all disciplines. In fact, the Church is a large part of why we have universities, colleges, and schools. Learning about creation leads us to the Creator. Faith and Reason are not only compatible but required. Religion and Science are not only reconcilable but complementary, each leading the other to greater understanding.
In our country, the Catholic emphasis on education has shown itself on the parish level for over a century. This parish level focuses mostly on children in elementary school and even into high school. The benefit of education at a Catholic School will often rival its public counterpart in academics, but the deeper advantage comes with the Catholic spirituality and Catholic lens through which all subjects and activities are viewed. This gives a student a deeper integration of what is learned. This focus stems from the Catholic teaching that all people are created in God's image and are called to holiness.
Now not all Catholic schools are alike, nor are all children. Different behavioral, psychological, social, and financial needs come to bear on choosing a school. Furthermore, there are different models of education employed and not all parishes have a day school as part of its ministry.
Here at St. Paul Parish, while we did have this ministry for 92 years (1926-2018) and thank God for the blessings that accompanied it, we no longer have a parish day school. However, there are other great Catholic day schools in the area. Click here to see how to enroll in an area Catholic School while remaining a St. Paul Parishioner.
